Khmer New Year

It has been a busy week in Banan, with Khmer New Year celebrations dominating the agenda. Family celebrations started to begin on Tuesday in preparation for the arrival of the new year last Wednesday at 8pm.

We experienced a lot of different traditional ways of celebrating the occasion, from lighting incense to encourage the Angels to dancing all evening at the local pagoda. Whilst the constant water fights on the road baffled many of the UK volunteers at first, everyone joined in with rituals such as washing the elders and throwing powder.
